My concentration is titled “A Deconstruction of Art” and focuses on just that. By layering tracing paper, I am able to convey the steps an artist takes in the process of creating artwork. The first 8 pieces each center around a specific color of the rainbow, in addition to brown and pink. These 8 pieces focus on the basics and routines of art, and so the chosen representation of the color is also simple and basic- items any artist can find and practice drawing with. The organized nature of these first 8 pieces shows a process similar to my own, in which I put a lot of thought into colors and swatches and materials, then do a sketch, then do the final piece. All of the pieces are also framed with black tape, which signifies that the art is on display, reinforced by a short caption about the color and/or subject shown within the frame, as though it is being displayed in a museum as a part of an installation. The last 4 pieces are themed around opposing colors and the liveliness of color and life and art. Each of the subjects chosen to draw are living, unlike the basic items from the previous 8 pieces. This is to convey the complexity you can interpret when bringing together color. The swatches in the backgrounds of these 4 pieces are not organized but instead sporadic and unmeasured, showing the messy nature of many artists. Whereas the first 8 projects focus on the technicality of art, the last four show the creativity needed to become a great artist.
