This piece is done in watercolors, metallic water colors, acrylic paint, and colored pencils, as well as fine-liner outlines. This piece started as a rough sketch in which I would draw the girl and then just figure out whatever else I wanted to do with it. I ended up saying I would do a geometric sort of gemstone based skirt that also morphs into the background, but I wanted to instead add the black background. So instead, I did the skirt only and then did acrylic paint or the background and water-colored over the paint (I used a matte paint that works well with that). It worked out well and, although I was nervous to free hand the owls, the loose, unplanned look works out well next to the very defined woman.
