This piece is of a Monarch butterfly on a pink flower, gathering nectar. The colors are all meant to match with one another to make the piece automatically pleasing to the eye. The offset of the flower to the right side is combated by the direction of the stripes in the background which are blue to signify the sky. I didn't just want to color a blue sky or add clouds that may mess up the composition of the piece, so instead I chose to just do the stripes. I worked of blending colors in colored pencil in this piece, since I tend sometimes to press too hard to begin with in my colored pencil pieces, not leaving enough area to work in other colors evenly and then blend smoothly.
